Gorbeck Road

Restoration work underway on Gorbeck RoadRestoration work has taken place on the Gorbeck Road which runs from Langscar Gate above Malham to the village of Langcliffe.

Gorbeck Road is part of the Pennine Bridleway Settle Loop and it had become badly eroded and deeply rutted by 4x4s and motorbikes.

During the winter months of 2004/05 restoration work took place on Gorbeck Road and the connecting Stockdale Lane bridleway. Over 3,000 tonnes of stone were airlifted to the site and contractors made use of the restoration techniques that had been so successful on the Lady Anne Highway.

Gorbeck Road following restoration workThe existing track is now suitable and safe for users and the open moorland and areas of sphagnum bog adjacent to the route have been fully protected.
