How to find out more
The Countryside Access website (opens in new window) provides the most up-to-date information about where you can go on access land in England and Wales, and where restrictions exist. This should be used in conjunction with an OS Explorer map.
Local Open Access information including local restrictions and closures will also be available at the Access Information Points listed below. These points are also marked on OS Explorer maps.
In addition, the new access symbol - see above left - may be displayed to help guide you at some entry and exit points. Look out for this, it shows that land is open for public access on foot or by wheelchair. Access rights for other activities may also apply.
Before setting out for a walk in an Open Access area, please check that it is open, either on the Countryside Access website (opens in new window), by phoning 0845 1 003298 or at one of our Access Information Points.
