Call for housing sites
- Initial call for sites, January/February 2009
- Second call for sites, October-December 2009
The National Park Authority is reviewing its housing policies. One of the main objectives is to try to identify suitable small sites for new affordable and local needs housing.
Initial call for sites, January/February 2009
With this in mind, the Authority conducted a ‘call for sites’ during January and February 2009. Landowners were invited to submit potential sites for allocation. Over 100 expressions of interest were submitted. The Authority's Housing Working Group has visited each site and undertaken an initial sift dismissing some sites and recommending others for further investigation.
The findings of the Authority's Working Group can be downloaded using the link below:

For each settlement where sites have been suggested there is a PDF location map. Each site is highlighted with a red boundary and has been given a numerical reference. Please note that none of these sites have any formal planning policy status. Their identification is part of an evidence gathering process and none have been endorsed by the Authority at this stage.
Second call for sites, October-December 2009
A second call for sites targeted at Hawes/Gayle, Grassington/Threshfield, Sedbergh and Reeth has been carried out. Whilst there was a good overall response in early 2009, the range of suitable sites submitted in these four key service centres was rather limited. The Authority therefore invited a second opportunity because it wanted to ensure that it was investigating all the potential options. This should help it to recommend the best available sites during public consultation on a draft Housing Development Plan next year.
The closing date for the second call for sites was 11 December 2009.
