Farm Building Design Guide

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Farm Buildings Design Guide is intended to reconcile the needs of farmers with the functions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, which are to protect the natural and built landscape of the National Park, and the enjoyment of that landscape by the public, both of which can be spoiled by the erection of large buildings. It is intended to stimulate good design, which minimises adverse visual impact, yet produces buildings whose form adequately serves their function. The Design Guide has the following specific aims:
  • to maximise efficiency in the planning application process for applicants, by indicating the design standards which need to be met, and the reasons for them.
  • to identify the other principal constraints facing applicants and farm building designers.

and thereby:

  • to bring more consistency and effectiveness to negotiations between applicants and planning officers.
