Listed buildings

There are currently 1,700 Listed Buildings in the National Park - specifically listed to protect the special architectural or historic importance of the building.

If you want to make any internal or external alterations to a Listed Building, it is very likely that you will require Listed Building Consent from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. You can download an application form for Listed Building Consent by visiting the Leaflets and Forms section of this website.

To find out if your building is listed or for free advice on Listed Building Consent, speak to your local planning officer or planning technician. You can also visit the Listing Buildings section of the English Heritage website (opens in new window), which provides a full range of information relating to Listed Buildings and the conservation of historic and traditional buildings.
