Learning about...

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is much more than just a series of nice views. It is a living landscape brimming with rich history, tradition and nature, and awesome geological features – an outdoor classroom, just waiting to be discovered.

The wealth of natural heritage here is outstanding and includes internationally important habitats such as limestone pavement, heather moorland and hay meadows, whilst the historic environment gives us a direct link with the generations who shared the landscape and settlements of the Dales.

In common with other National Parks across the UK, the Yorkshire Dales was originally designated as a National Park because of its unique and special qualities. Recognised by the nation as worth conserving for the enrichment of us all, National Parks are valued by millions of people in this country and world wide. Find out more in What's so special?
