Birds eye primrose flowers

Coniferous Plantations

These have a combination of pine species, Norway spruce and Sitka spruce, with the latter being the main species planted in the larger blocks of commercial planting. These generally have little botanical interest but may be important for some endangered species. For example, red squirrel in the western areas of the National Park. Conifer plantations with significant amounts of open grassland also provide good habitats for butterflies, moths, dragonflies, owls and other birds of prey.
