Travel information

Over 8 million people now visit the Yorkshire Dales National Park each year to enjoy its unique landscape and cultural heritage, and to savour the unique peace and tranquillity. Almost every one of those visitors now comes by car and the ever-increasing use of vehicular transport within the National Park is threatening the very qualities that attract people in the first place.

BusUsing public transport will help to protect this special environment. It also allows you to relax and see the countryside from a different perspective. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has therefore created a special website to help more people to explore the National Park by public transport, bicycle and on foot.

The Travel Dales website (opens in new window) offers visitors and local people information about how to organise their trip to the Park by train or bus and includes a link to a journey planner. It also contains information on cycle routes and long distance footpaths.

Dales Bus Discount Scheme logoThe website also provides information about the Dales Bus Discount Scheme which provides discounts for public transport users at a variety of businesses such as cafés, pubs, B&Bs and other attractions across the Yorkshire Dales.

So if you're planning a trip to the National Park, please visit Travel Dales and consider giving yourself and your car a break!

Please note that whilst travelling in the Yorkshire Dales National Park at times you may not be able to get a signal on your mobile telephone.
