Join rugmaker Karen Griffiths and make a rag rug inspired by the meadows near the museum. Karen will supply hessian, tools and simple frames for you to use.
What you will need to bring: Sharp dressmaking scissors are essential. A variety of old clothes suitable for cutting up. Items such as felted lambswool, cotton t-shirts and silks are all suitable. 8 June: Hay meadows of the Yorkshire Dales: Past, present and future - 1.00pm-4.00pm
Tom Lord will lead a walk around his dales farm and talk about the origins of meadows in the landscape and the farming practices that have shaped their development. Local botanist Dr Judith Allinson will give an introduction to the flora of the farm. Meet at Lower Winskill Farm, grid ref: SD826664 Directions: Follow the road out of Langcliffe towards Malham. 23 June: Wildflower Walk around Muker - 1.30pm-3.30pm
This gentle walk around the footpaths of Muker will allow us to study the plants found in this very traditionally managed part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The walk is led by James Ferguson, Project Officer for the Yorkshire Dales Road Verge Project. This is a new project within the national park investigating methods of good management for the road verges found here. Road Verges are often the last refuges of the natural flora found within an area, and they form vital ‘natural corridors’ for wildlife to both live in and pass through between other sites. Come and find out why and what we can all do to help manage them better! Meet at the public car park in Muker (normal charges apply for those parking there). Organised by YWT.
