The Friends of the Three Peaks are a group of individuals and organisations who want to protect and enhance the special qualities of the distinctive and inspirational landscapes of the Three Peaks area in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A launch event was held in August 2009 with Calendar Girl Angela Baker - details on our launch event page.
The Friends of the Three Peaks is an off-shoot of the Three Peaks Project and supports its objectives, helping to raise funds and provide work-hours so it can achieve them. The Three Peaks Project is run and managed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.
Friends are an integral part of the Three Peaks Project and can help in a variety of ways:
giving an annual membership fee
undertaking or donating to fundraising activities for maintenance and conservation work
getting involved in some of the maintenance as part of organised Ranger-led groups
buying/selling exclusive Three Peaks merchandise
sharing their passion about the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Three Peaks with others
encouraging others to join the Friends of the Three Peaks

Who can join?
Anyone can join the Friends of the Three Peaks including people from overseas and organisations as Corporate Friends.
Calendar Girl Angela Baker, who posed as Miss February in the famous Rylstone WI nude calendar, was the first person to become a Friend of the Three Peaks. Her husband John, whose death from cancer sparked the fund-raising calendar for Leukaemia Research, worked for the YDNPA and started the first project to conserve the path network around Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. She is pictured with Authority Chairman Carl Lis in front of Whernside holding a Whernside walker’s medal, one of the exclusive pieces of Three Peaks merchandise.
Corporate Friends
Many organisations benefit from the work of the Three Peaks Project, such as commercial walking holidays or charities who undertake fundraising activities in the area, and many more organisations such as local businesses, could benefit. Membership fee
The Friends of Three Peaks has an annual membership fee of £10 although you can pay more if you wish.
How to join
You need to complete a Friends of the Three Peaks Membership Form and return it along with a membership fee of at least £10. Friends will be asked to renew their membership and pay the fee annually.
By post: Send the completed form and a cheque (made payable to ‘Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’ and marked on the reverse ‘Friends of the Three Peaks’) to Friends of the Three Peaks c/o Josie Simpson, Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Colvend, Hebden Road, Grassington, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 5LB
In person: Visit a National Park Centre and give an Advisor the completed form and membership fee in cash or cheque (made payable to ‘Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’ and marked on the reverse ‘Friends of the Three Peaks’)
