Current closures

Temporary closures

There are occasions when a public right of way may need to be temporarily closed for a period, for example to allow restoration works, or for reasons of public safety.  These temporary closures are advertised in the local press covering the area of the closure and also on site.  The period of closure and the alternative routes which are currently in force are indicated on the site notices and maps which can be accessed by following the links below.

Order 2009 No.3 - Footpath No.4 (part) Burnsall
This closure is due to repairs to the bridge, namely taking down a section of the eastern abutment wall for rebuilding.

Order 2009 No.5 - Footpath No.33 (part) Horton-in-Ribblesdale
This closure is necessary to allow the safe conversion of a barn adjacent to the footpath.

Order 2009 No.6 - Footpath No.53 (part) Arkengarthdale & 17 (part) Reeth
This closure is necessary to allow work to be carried out to replace a footbridge at Slei Gill.

Order 2009 No.7 - Footpath No.21 Buckden
This closure is necessary because of the likelihood of danger to the public, due to a landslip. Repairs to the footpath will require stabilisation work and resurfacing.

Order 2010 No.2 - Bridleway No.21 (part) High Abbotside
This closure is necessary as works are being executed on or near the route, namely timber harvesting.

Emergency closures

When public rights of way are found to be in a condition which is dangerous for the public, an emergency closure may be put into operation immediately on that section of route for a maximum of 21 days either to enable it to be put back into repair, or to make a temporary closure for a longer period.  These closures are advertised on site.  The period of closure and the alternative routes which are currently in force are indicated on the site notices and maps which can be accessed by following the links below.
