Cotter Force

Location: North-west of Appersett, Wensleydale

Description:
Cotter Force, west of Hawes, is a secluded series of waterfalls in woodland on Cotterdale Beck, a tributary of the River Ure in Wensleydale. On the short 0.5km walk from the road to the waterfalls, several bird species can be seen including dippers, grey wagtails, kingfishers and redstarts. Buzzards may also be seen flying overhead.

Access and facilities:
Cotter Force can be accessed along a stile-free public right of way from the road, as shown on the Ordnance Survey map mentioned above. The path is suitable for wheelchairs and there are three seating areas along it. The National Park Authority continues to work closely with the landowner to improve access to the waterfall, so please keep to the public footpath and avoid the adjacent hay meadows. There is limited car parking in a pull-in on the road, which is large enough for three cars.
