Making a compliment or complaint
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is committed to providing a high standard of service to the public. We value your opinion and feedback on how we measure up to these standards. Positive comments and experiences help us recognise, record and learn good practice lessons. Sometimes we make mistakes, and sometimes we might not do something for you as well as we should. It is important that you let us know and give us the chance to put things right – and to learn from our mistakes.
The Authority has an effective procedure for recording and dealing with your complaints. We have produced a brief, user-friendly guiide, How do I Complain, on how to make a complaint and this can be downloaded by clicking on the link below:
Full details or our policy can be found in the document Compliments, Complaints and Comments – A Guide to the Authority’s Procedures which can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
Alternatively, please contact the Secretariat Administrative Officer on 01969 652326 or email secretariat@yorkshiredales.org.uk.
The Authority also has a Confidential Reporting Policy which allows employees, Authority Members, and third parties such as contractors or potential contractors to raise concerns about fraud, discrimination, or misuse of Authority property. This is sometimes known as whistleblowing. If you would like to know more, please contact the Secretariat team (email secretariat@yorkshiredales.org.uk)..
Complaints about Authority Members
The Authority has adopted a Code of Conduct which applies to Members of the Authority (please click on the link to obtain a copy of the Code, or contact the secretariat team on secretariat@yorkshiredales.org.uk). If you believe that one of the Members of the Authority has failed to follow the Code of Conduct you can make a complaint to that effect. Under the previous system, such complaints had to be made to a national body called Standards for England. Since the system changed in May 2008, however, you should now make your complaint to our Standards Committee, which is responsible for upholding high standards of conduct for Authority Members. It may be that the complaint is referred on to Standards for England by the Authority's Standards Committee.
Details of how to make a complaint are found in our explanatory leaflet which can be found either by clicking on the link here or by contacting the Secretariat Administrative Officer on 01969 652326 or emailing secretariat@yorkshiredales.org.uk. Your complaint will be considered initially by a panel of members drawn from the Authority's Standards Committee, chaired by an Independent Member.
